Factory Fit engine harnesses are manufactured according to the original General Motors specifications. Each part number is fully assembled, taped and ready to install upon arrival. This harness will plug into the firewall in the factory location, and will follow original routing in the engine compartment. A combination of the engine and front light harness accomplish most functions under the hood of an early GM vehicle. This harness is modified for a 12 volt HEI ignition. We replace the original resistor wire with a standard 12 volt feed, and will include a connector for a GM large cap distributor. If you are not using a GM large cap HEI distributor, the connector end may need to be replaced to connect to your system. Note that some Pontiacs had resistance wiring installed in the dash harness and may not be available as HEI part numbers as a result. Please consult with the American Autowire sales department for more information.
Engine harness design varied significantly from year to year, but most will contain wiring for the ignition system, starter, heater blower, and temperature/oil pressure sender wires if applicable. Some vehicles used a capillary tube to provide an oil pressure reading, so these will not be included in a wiring harness.
Please consult your factory service manual to determine if the engine harness for your vehicle will contain the circuits required for your project, or give our Sales team a call to confirm part numbers.

Note:
This is a direct-replacement Factory Fit engine harness that has been modified to work with HEI ignition. This harness will not contain the resistor wire required for an original points ignition, and should only be used with a 12 volt ignition system.
All other connections found in this harness will be made to the original GM specifications.
